Roxie’s Blog: A Blog by a Dog & Her Human Companion

Roxie, Chief Do & Blogger: a picture of a dog

Roxie, Chief Blogger

Hello, and welcome to my blog.  I know.  I’m a dog and dog’s aren’t supposed to blog.  But, just as God is Dog spelled backwards, blog is…golb spelled backwards. Oh, nevermind. You have to admit, at least, that blog almost rhymes with dog.   So there you have it.

I will write occasional posts about a dog’s life and the exciting things that happen to me.   Oh. And also, I may let my person, Marcia get a a word in every now and then. She tends to get serious about stuff. So she’ll probably write more about “issues” as she likes to call it.

Chief Dog and Chief Blogger

Marcia and I run a small dog boarding business in our home.  I am Chief Dog and Chief Blogger.  We are business partners, in addition to being true companions.  You can read my story about how I became a pet sitting dog boarding ninja here.  I’m really happy to be able to make it easier for the dogs who stay with us  at HousePETality Pet Sitting and Dog Boarding to feel right at home.  I know they miss their people and their homes.  And it’s my job to make them feel comfortable and to offer good old-fashioned canine company when their people have to go away on trips and have to leave their dogs at home.  Just look here and you’ll see what a typical day will be like for your dog when he/she stays with us at HousePETality.  If you’re looking for a safe and fun place to board your beloved dog while you are away, think HousePETality.

The Blessing of Touch Touch is another quality that characterizes most of our relationships with the companion animals in our lives. Read Part 1 and Part 2 We live in a very low-touch society. See Part 1 Unconditional Love and Acceptance We routinely throw these words around when talking about a relationship with an animal. But what do they really mean? Pure Love- Loving Our Companion Animals-Part 1

young girl holding golden retriever puppy

Human beings have kept companion animals for thousands of years. They are the animals taken out of the wild–either recently or long ago– that we invite into our homes, our families, our lives. They can be dogs, cats, birds, pigs, rabbits, small mammals, reptiles, or fish. We do not join our lives for reasons of…

Tough on Cruelty, Soft on Dogs: Bikers with a Mission

Their stereotype is of tough guys and gals. Harley-driving, tatooed, and tough.  So much for stereotypes.  Bikers Against Animal Cruelty (BAAC) are animal heroes. BAAC’s mission was set in motion by the Michael Vick case in which the football star was responsible for the injury and death of many dogs in his Bad Newz Kennels–…

Exercising with your dog: Dog-er-cise

A woman exercising with her dog

Now I tend to keep it simple by taking two daily walks with my dog, Roxie, and with all the guest dogs that board with HousePETality. But here is a video of an alternative approach to exercising your dog that clearly involves a smart dog, a persistent owner and a great relationship between them.

Do you know WHO is in your pet’s food?

If you are a loving pet owner, you undoubtedly intend to feed your pet the best you can afford. After all, he or she is a member of your family.  And it stands to reason, that you will pay in the long run– in veterinary bills– for a dog or cat who eats bad food. …
