Roxie’s Blog: A Blog by a Dog & Her Human Companion

Roxie, Chief Do & Blogger: a picture of a dog

Roxie, Chief Blogger

Hello, and welcome to my blog.  I know.  I’m a dog and dog’s aren’t supposed to blog.  But, just as God is Dog spelled backwards, blog is…golb spelled backwards. Oh, nevermind. You have to admit, at least, that blog almost rhymes with dog.   So there you have it.

I will write occasional posts about a dog’s life and the exciting things that happen to me.   Oh. And also, I may let my person, Marcia get a a word in every now and then. She tends to get serious about stuff. So she’ll probably write more about “issues” as she likes to call it.

Chief Dog and Chief Blogger

Marcia and I run a small dog boarding business in our home.  I am Chief Dog and Chief Blogger.  We are business partners, in addition to being true companions.  You can read my story about how I became a pet sitting dog boarding ninja here.  I’m really happy to be able to make it easier for the dogs who stay with us  at HousePETality Pet Sitting and Dog Boarding to feel right at home.  I know they miss their people and their homes.  And it’s my job to make them feel comfortable and to offer good old-fashioned canine company when their people have to go away on trips and have to leave their dogs at home.  Just look here and you’ll see what a typical day will be like for your dog when he/she stays with us at HousePETality.  If you’re looking for a safe and fun place to board your beloved dog while you are away, think HousePETality.

It’s Adopt-a-Greyhound Month. Time to bring a Greyhound into Your Life!

April 1st marks the beginning of Adopt-a-Greyhound month. It’s a nationwide celebration of the utter adoptability of this beautiful, athletic, calm and delightful breed. And, sadly, there are lots of them who need homes after a long and grueling life at the track. Won’t you open your heart and home to a 40 mile-an-hour couch potato?

Veterinary Emergency? There’s a new kid on the block in Natick

MetroWest Veterinary Referral Hospital joins Tufts Walpole for those off-hours pet emergencies Of course we’d all rather hope we’ll never need to find Veterinarian in the wee hours of the night or on Sunday afternoon.  But accidents happen and sudden illness can overtake your dog or cat or other pet. When disaster strikes, it’s good…

It’s Adopt-A-Less-Adoptable-Pet Week – September 17th-25th

“Don’t hate me because I’m less adoptable. Adopt me…because I NEED you!” This is the rallying cry at Petfinder in their annual campaign for adopting the less than perfect special needs pets who find their way into animal shelters and often languish there.  Some have committed the crime of being old. Some are missing an…

Great Kid + Great Idea= Money for Seizure Service Dog

Seven-Year-Old Epileptic Boy Writes a Book and Earns the Money to Afford a Seizure Service Dog I am a sucker for dog stories.  I am especially moved by stories of what dogs do for us humans.  And what some of us humans will do to get the dog we need and want to love.  Here’s…

Roxie’s adoption story- Animal Rescue Site/Petfinder.org

I’m passionate about adopting/rescuing dogs.  There are so many great dogs languishing in shelters who would make great companions.  I adopted Roxie over 7 years ago.  I found her in a foster home in Framingham, MA where she was awaiting a forever home. She had been surrendered with her mother and sister from a family…

Happy National Pet Week. Celebrate by adopting a rescue dog!

It’s no secret to anyone who knows me well that I worship at the alter of dogs.  My dog, Roxie, is at the very core of my life: I live with her, work with her, play with her, love with her.  I could go on. And on. Roxie is a mutt.  And a rescue dog. …

A Dog Feels Grief and Shows its Loyalty

I work with dogs (and other animals) as a dog boarder and pet sitter because I love animals. I especially love–and respect–dogs. The bond that’s possible between dogs and people is, in many cases, nothing short of profound. Here’s a story of one very loyal dog’ grief over the loss of his master. This one in the form of a letter written to Dr. Michael Fox, animal advocate by a person whose dog showed remarkable devotion, and who shows us how knowing dogs can be.

Adopt a pet through Petfinder.com: make someone happy

As you may know, I’m a big fan of Petfinder.com. Rescued 3-legged mutt: survivor, mother, lover & athlete

Maty-and-kitten

Maty is a 3-legged Australian Shepherd mix–a mutt in other words. She was rescued, and, in turn, rescues others. After a very rough start in her own life–abandoned at 3 months and surviving multiple illnesses, one requiring the amputation of a leg– she gives back every day as a wonderful pet, a frisbee competitor and…
