I’m passionate about adopting/rescuing dogs. There are so many great dogs languishing in shelters who would make great companions. I adopted Roxie over 7 years ago. I found her in a foster home in Framingham, MA where she was awaiting a forever home. She had been surrendered with her mother and sister from a family in Long Island, NY. I believe the back story is that they experienced financial distress and lost their home.
From these sad beginnings, she has turned out to be everything I have ever wanted in a dog companion. And, she’s my business partner here at HousePETality, too. Without her calm and generous companionship to our dog guests, my dog boarding services wouldn’t be quite the same. She is instrumental in showing visiting dogs the ropes and making them feel very much at home while their people are away.
Here’s Roxie’s adoption story:
My significant other, Roxie
I had a rescued Greyhound, Pasha, whose buddy, Sophie a rescued Lab mix, recently passed away. Pasha seemed so lonely that I wanted a companion for him. And me. I went on Petfinder and found a picture, captioned “Rascal” who looked very Greyhound-like. Found out she was being fostered in the town right next to mine.
When I met her I discovered that her picture had been switched, and Rascal was really a different dog, the daughter of the dog in the picture. The real Rascal was a very different dog, part Whippet, part Pit Bull and part whoknowswhat. She seemed sweet though and Pasha liked her so home we went. I renamed her Roxie.
Sadly, several months later, my beautiful Zen Master, Pasha, passed away unexpectedly. That left Roxie and me. Roxie is such a great all around dog– smart, sweet, protective, and a cuddle bug. I adore her. She’s everything I want in a dog.
Since acquiring Roxie, I have started a home business of VIP dog boarding and Roxie is my main assistant. She’s 9 now and is a great friend to all the dogs–no matter how annoying or dominant– who come stay with us. In fact, I think she’s a saint.
