Maty is a 3-legged Australian Shepherd mix–a mutt in other words. She was rescued, and, in turn, rescues others.
After a very rough start in her own life–abandoned at 3 months and surviving multiple illnesses, one requiring the amputation of a leg– she gives back every day as a wonderful pet, a frisbee competitor and a surrogate mother.
With “a personality as sweet as Mother Teresa’s, she unwittingly became a nanny of sorts for tiny feral kittens.”
She nurses and cuddles the kittens until they are ready to accept humans and other animals and can be adopted into homes of their own.
