HousePETality is a very small and intimate operation. We do quality, not volume. I don’t take on many clients at a time, so your pet will get my full attention. I am currently a work-at-home Web designer and pet sitter. The two activities balance each other. What I’m getting at, is that I will spend a lot of quality time with your dog (if you’re boarding) or with your other pet(s) if you request home visits.
I, Marcia, have been an animal lover since I was born. As a toddler, I drove my mother nuts by running up to every dog we saw on our outings in the park. I was never allowed to have my own dog until I had a house of my own. Then I really let loose.
My love has only deepened over the years as I have been honored with the wonderful love and companionship of the many dogs with whom I’ve shared my home and life. First the magnificent black Lab, Geezel. Then the pair, Lina and Mr. B. (pictured at right), followed by my Zen Master Greyhound, Pasha with his Lab sidekick, Sophie. And finally, Ms. Roxie, the love of my life.
My love and interest in animals even extended to my attempt to write a book about the relationships between people and the animals they love. I called it “Pure Love,” and my research consisted of interviews with 30 people who were just as crazy about their animals as I am. Maybe some day I’ll finish it. I used to be a Psychologist (for people) and one of my special areas was pet loss counseling. So animals have always been a big part of my life, even when I couldn’t have one of my own.
As a pet lover, I am exquisitely aware of how difficult it can be to leave your pets behind when you have to go away on business, pleasure or emergency. Besides the fact that I love to hang around with dogs, that’s one of the reasons I began this service.
Most dogs are happiest in a home-like environment. I know that a trusted pet sitter is a “find.” As my human clients can testify, I am that trusted, loving person who can fill in for you in keeping your pet happy and stress-free until you return.
My current canine “squeeze” is Roxie. She is a wonderful, middle-aged, mid-size, good-natured and well-behaved mutt. Roxie spent her first 2 years (before I rescued her) with her mother and sister, so she is very well socialized with other dogs and is neither dominant nor submissive– just right for her role as Chief Dog.
The Metrowest area in which Sherborn is located is graced with many wonderful places for walking with the dogs I care for. My home, where I board only one household’s dog population at a time, is situated in the woods with a large, fenced-in yard: great for sniffing and utility outings. We don’t rely on an outing in the yard for exercise. To that end, we take two good long walks every day in local parks and woodland trails.
When I’m not looking after my furry charges, I spend my time as a free-lance web designer. As a home-based designer, I am available for nearly constant companionship for the dogs I accept into care. I look at my time with the animals as a welcome break from staring at my computer screen, and a wonderful grounding in what really matters.
